Project Overview
Ashfield house is a striking and impressive modern design 2 storey 238m2 house situated in North County Dublin. The house was a replacement dwelling and the clients opted for a modular design to help accelerate the process of construction and allow them to occupy the home sooner. Buildwright became the solution of choice since the clients appreciated the traditional properties of robust and durable masonry construction but also sought the benefits of modular construction. The solution which was delivered in conjunction with the Architects was a 5 module flat roof home with a spacious and accommodating ground floor which has several wings to maximise the natural lighting. The upper floor follows the stair core and then extends over part of the ground floor area with an additional wing extending in the opposite direction to the ground floor with a striking unpropped cantilever. The selection of materials for use in the project was a central focus with concrete chosen as a core structural component for it's robustness and design flexibility while the external finishes blended with the surroundings using a combination of brick and a charred larch cladding.
