Project Overview
The unitised façade system for the first building of the Jersey International Finance Centre definitely ticks the box for an hybrid technology… The façade itself is a combination of four elements: aluminium glazed unitised curtain wall, prefabricated concrete cladding, glass reinforced concrete cornice and granite cladding.
The IFC1 client brief was to deliver environmentally sustainable, fast track BREEAM Excellent rated building that provides maximum flexibility for future tenants. Visual appearance of IFC1 was of utmost importance. Based on the brief IFC1 has been designed to have long spans, uninterrupted by columns so that a typical floor provides 85% efficiency.
The development and the construction of the façade required a high level of coordination between designers from the UK (Architects and precast concrete manufacturer), Jersey (precast concrete and granite cladding installation), France (reinforced concrete structure), Germany (Aluminium glazed unitised panels and GRC cornice) and China (granite cladding). Off-site fabrication was promoted to reduced the installation period on site. The totality of the façade elements were pre-fabricated in factories to obtain the best quality and to meet the tight programme.
