Project Overview

A new "transit site" for the Gypsy and Traveller community; the first of its kind in Cornwall, has driven the development of an innovative offsite product.

Designed and built by Cormac Solutions Ltd and part of a £1.75M project, 17 offsite-constructed buildings have been provided. The need to deliver an extremely robust product has resulted in pioneering an innovative design and construction of ablution blocks and site management equipment for this demanding user group.

The brief required the provision of buildings in a short timescale, which needed to comply with specific Planning Conditions on this rural countryside site. Moreover, the client; Cornwall Housing Ltd, called for a design and construction that would withstand the rigours of a regular turnover of tenants from the Gypsy and Traveller community in transit and they travel around the UK.

A truly Cornish development: - designers have come up with an innovative product, piloted on this demanding user group and funded by Cornwall Council. This is a robust reinforced concrete construction technique cast offsite in Cornwall and assembled quickly, but with the appearance of rural slate and timber elevations satisfying Planners, the Client and a large number of users.
