Project Overview

This award submission details two schemes delivered by Cormac under emergency timescales, which have paved the way for the development of future permanent and temporary housing schemes. Working in partnership with client Cornwall Housing Ltd, the aim was to provide safe and comfortable living accommodation for homeless people in an incredibly short timescale due to the COVID 19 outbreak. The schemes involved the installation of 22 temporary dwellings and a surrounding safe area for residents, with offices for managing the site and assisting residents. The sites are being monitored to inform and determine the effectiveness of future sites throughout Cornwall. This project was devised as an emergency response plan to offer protection and stability to homeless and vulnerable people and was deployed extremely quickly with all works completed in a period of 3 weeks. This could only be achieved through the use of offsite modular technology and in collaboration with local sub-contractors and suppliers, particularly with the stress on the supply chain during the construction period. The project shows innovation and creativity in engineering and project management through the use of offsite modular solutions.
