Project Overview
Our ‘£1 a day’ homes are a truly sustainable development, which out-performs almost every other housing development in the UK. The homes were built in a world-class factory by our construction partners ilke Homes, before being ‘installed’ in just five days – with water and electricity services connected just two days later. As well as investing £30m into ilke to develop ‘modern methods of construction’ (MMC) techniques, Homes England also invested £750,000 into our site, via its Home Building Fund. This is important – because it was the FIRST time public money had been used to invest in a small business using MMC to build ‘net zero carbon ready’ homes. We created a strong partnership with our engineers Dice (who specialise in all things offsite and MMC), and others to develop innovative solutions to slash more than 10,000 tonnes of embodied carbon from the scheme, compared to using traditional strip footings. The scheme was completed quickly and to budget. None of our buyers had problems obtaining mortgages. All nine homes were sold for the asking price, using Help to Buy. Finally, the site is former NHS land – our purchase returned £250,000 to Nottinghamshire’s mental health Trust, to reinvest in vital services.
