Project Overview
Felda House, Albion Way, Wembley is the second project that Vision Modular and HTA have delivered as part of the Wembley Masterplan. The Felda House project is a 450 bed, 19 storey student building. It sits on the corner of Albion Way and North End Road. The project was completed in July 2015, and is now fully let for the 2015/16 academic year - a major goal of the investors. The design process involved iterations of the layouts that were 'modularised'. This was continued until the layout was optimised from (i) the investors perspective and (ii) from a modular delivery perspective.
The structural design and modular design proceeded in parallel with progressive layers of detail added to the modules once final fitout and product selection details were agreed. This was done 2 months before module manufacture and 1 month ahead of the first deliveries to site. The site based teams had to safely handle and install the modules which weighed from 12t to near 25t due to the extent of the fitout and the module fabric. The Vision install teams had to manipulate the units into location and meet the exacting tolerances required over 19 storeys. In addition, the management focus and quality control procedures required to ensure the correct fixing details included each connection detail being recorded. It is an exemplar for how construction in the 21st century should evolve. Investors and end occupiers have the comfort that the building materials are tried and tested, and the Vision way represents innovation in how the materials are assembled and deployed.
