Project Overview
Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 is a new £300 million multifuel plant situated at Ferrybridge 'C' Power Station near Knottingley in West Yorkshire. The project is operated by Multifuel Energy Ltd. (MEL), a 50:50 joint venture project between SSE and Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. and the main contractor responsible for the construction was Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI).
Construction of the project began in October 2012, and the plant became fully operational on 31 July 2015. The plant is now capable of generating 70MW of low carbon electricity (enough to power around 160,000 homes) using a range of fuel sources from across Yorkshire and the wider region, including waste-derived fuels from various sources of municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste and waste wood. Bourne were responsible for the procurement and the installation of circa 3,000 tonnes of heavy structural steelwork and metalwork products, including columns, beams, open grid flooring, hand railing, stairs and runway beams, all manufactured with a galvanised finish.
