Project Overview

The Hanham Hall development has been constructed in South Gloucestershire within the grounds of the Grade II listed mansion which dates back to 1655. The project team is led by Barratt Developments and HTA Design LLP who were chosen by the HCA following a competitive bidding process. From the outset the project team placed a great emphasis on creating a real sense of community within the new 'eco village', which includes 65 affordable homes let through Sovereign Housing. As a result the final development combines attractive, modern properties, with beautifully landscaped grounds, excellent amenities and a range of sustainable features such as bike sheds, bat boxes and communal rainwa-ter harvesting.

The central challenge was how to create attractive properties, which remained cost-effective to build and could consistently meet the demanding energy performance requirements, particularly for the building fabric. To achieve this, the Kingspan TEK® Building System was selected as the main building fabric material for the walls and roof of the new properties right from the initial pitch and Kingspan TEK® Delivery Partners, Kingspan Timber Solutions acted as an integral part of the project team throughout. SAP calculations were carried out at an early stage to ensure the SIP constructions delivered the required level of performance at the best possible price. Kingspan Timber Solutions then took on full responsibility for ensuring consistency in the performance of the fabric of each building, using their expertise to maximise the benefits of SIP construction.

In addition to the inherent fabric performance and speed of construction offered by the Kingspan TEK® Building System, another key driver behind their specification was the design freedom they offered HTA Design LLP. As the panels are cut to each building's design, the firm were able to simply incorporate modern design features and large open windows, creating a pleasant living environment. The SIPs also helped to minimise wall thicknesses, increasing internal space whilst also providing an ideal base for the timber cladding used for the property facades.
