Project Overview
A 63-apartment extra-care scheme on a prominent site fronting the Great Field at Poundbury in Dorset.
NOMA has worked in collaboration with Yarlington Housing Group and the Duchy of Cornwall executive architects to design a 63-apartment extra-care scheme that balances the traditional design standards that are required by the Duchy of Cornwall for their Poundbury development with the functional needs of extra-care apartments. The building contains a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments, plus communal facilities.
The scheme is being constructed by Galliford Try Partnerships using modern methods of construction to achieve a traditional building form. Noma worked with Atkin Trade Specialists and Metsec Metframe to design the steel superstructure of the building. The lightweight steel frame was manufactured off-site with integral insulation panels, thereby allowing the quick erection of the main frame.
The building has been split into 3 phases to facilitate construction on a fairly tight site, and to allow brickwork to progress in tandem with the steel frame in order to achieve watertight sections of the building quickly. The project is currently nearing completion, with the opening due in February 2018.
