Project Overview

The Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust set an ambitious goal as part of a £200 million investment, to improve healthcare for local people. By creating a new state-of the-art hospital, the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital provides onsite emergency care consultants 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is the first purpose-built hospital of its kind offering this level of medical cover in England. The building is an architectural triumph - with a geometrically challenging circular shape, it was clear from the outset that traditional materials would not lend themselves to this scheme and therefore offsite was required, in particular light steel frame.

EOS Facades custom manufactured 20,000m2 of light gauge SFS and pods. EOS were appointed due to the superior quality of their product - offering a versatile building system and enabling rapid construction whilst providing a lightweight, high strength solution. Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, National Medical Director, NHS England commented: "This hospital is a glimpse of the future and sets the standard for other NHS organisations across the country. We should be proud of this hospital offering excellent emergency care for the local population. "
