Project Overview

This is the first new build Primary School for Northamptonshire County Council, designed by pHp Architects, using a majority of off-site components within its construction.
This represents a brave step for the Council, driven forward by pHp Architects embracing modern methods of construction: not a single brick or block was used in the design or construction of the entire project!

The proposals for this new 420 place school in Silverstone village includes Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the walls and roof to provide excellent thermal integrity and air-tightness, combined with other passive sustainable technologies, the building delivers very low energy in-use ('A'-rated EPC achieved).

A palette of natural materials has been selected, in conjunction with a low, linear building form to soften the relationship with the rural landscape, with splashes of rainbow colours to balance against the muted colours of larch cladding and local limestone walling.

As can be seen from the distinctive design, adopting a majority of off-site technologies did not limit the opportunities for creating a bespoke Architectural solution, in fact, it proved to be a key driver in the success of the project.
