Project Overview
The client's brief asked for a landmark marketing and management office building at the gateway to a major commercial regeneration site in east London. The building was to provide approx. 200m² of flexible and office and meeting spaces and ultimately should be demountable for reuse on future development sites.
As part of the first phase of the East Plus regeneration partnership between SEGRO plc and the GLA, the site at Beam Reach in Rainham will attract SMEs with the creation of two innovation villages accommodating a range of small scale office/industrial units. The inclusion of a management and marketing building was a core part of the client's overall brief, as it would provide support to these businesses.
The design needed to embody the ethos of the regeneration that inspired it and its location adjacent to the elevate A13 provided the opportunity not only to market the commercial regeneration of the entire Beam Reach business park, but also to provide the client with a building that could be relocated at some point in the future to a similar regeneration development. These aspirations inspired the use of up-cycled shipping containers to create an industrial inspired, flexible and ultimately reusable commercial building.
