Project Overview

The Rye by Tikari Works is a CLT development of 10 apartments overlooking Peckham Rye Park. The scheme is arranged in 2 buildings: a 4 unit block and a 2nd, larger block of 6 units. A limited palette of finishes has been used with wood featured in various forms: CLT is exposed throughout with whitewashed timber floors and the kitchen cabinetry is made from 3 layer spruce ply with CNC cut grooves.

The scheme replaces a dilapidated 2 storey post war building and 4 associated garages on a site adjacent to Peckham Rye Park, opposite the original 1920s Peckham Lido. CLT has been used for all internal walls as well as the superstructure. This is not necessary from a structural perspective, however CLT's use throughout the buildings dovetailed seamlessly and achieved a key design principle to create uncomplicated, uncluttered spaces that will provide an unfussy backdrop to furniture and daily life.

Peckham Rye is undergoing transformation and Tikari Works felt that there was scope for a design led residential project and a pent up demand amongst buyers for a more authentic, individual type of experience. This has been proven with most apartments selling quickly, despite this being a tricky time in the housing market due to Covid-19.
