Project Overview

The entry is for installation of the Glulam & CLT roof structure for the new 4,000m2 activity centre at St George's College in Weybridge, which was commissioned to mark the 150th Anniversary of the school. Designed by Felicity Meares of leading Architects Scott Brownrigg, with Wiehag then working with the design team on the final construction design and production detailing of the Glulam & CLT roof package. Wiehag also manufactured the PEFC certified timber package and then transported it from their high-tech factory in Austria to site, where Wiehag's scope also included unloading & installation, plus craneage and MEWPs.

The complex roof is a bi-directionally curved, freeform glulam & CLT timber structure and is formed from two layers of Glulam members which give a unique and exciting appearance which pushes the limits of structural timber to create a wave-like form that blends into the landscape. For such a complicated structure Wiehag's Engineers used Parametric design which was linked to our sophisticated CNC manufacturing machinery, and with maximum work being carried out offsite, this enabled our skilled erectors to successfully install this amazing roof safely, on time and to a quality that delighted the client.
