Project Overview

Computational Foundry is a new BREEAM excellent project forming part of Swansea University's £450 million Bay Campus development. The University has taken an innovative approach to offsite construction on this building which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government.
Computational Foundry will provide world class computer science facilities. Designed to support increased collaboration between industry and academia, the bespoke environment has a footprint of 7453sqm that includes offices, laboratories, and research and teaching areas.
Through collaboration with our design teams and the University, the Computational Foundry is set to be the largest precast brickwork façade project in Wales. More than 700 precast brick panels will be installed across two wings of up to five stories. This solution delivers the original design concept, with the articulation providing ornamental relief and visual interest. Working in partnership we were able to explore the many benefits of the offsite brick solution in relation to the newly built traditional brick buildings that surround the Computational Foundry. We have found the precast brick panels so successful that we will be adopting this in future schemes
